Hyperliquid vs Binance Futures: Fees, Liquidity & Funding (2026)

Hyperliquid vs Binance Futures compared with real data from 4 Nov 2026: fees, 24h volume, open interest, funding, spread, depth and custody on BTC, ETH, SOL, HYPE.

November 4, 202612 min

The short version: in our snapshot of 4 November 2026 (08:08 UTC), Binance USDⓈ-M futures traded 3.8 times more BTC volume than Hyperliquid in 24 hours ($12.97B vs $3.40B) and held 2.5 times more BTC open interest ($7.72B vs $3.10B). But order book depth within ±0.1% of mid was actually higher on Hyperliquid for BTC ($90.7M vs $66.5M) and SOL, and Hyperliquid held 4.6 times more HYPE open interest than Binance. Base-tier taker fees are almost the same (0.045% on Hyperliquid, 0.05% on Binance or 0.045% paying with BNB). The real difference is custody: Binance holds your funds behind an account with identity verification, while Hyperliquid is traded from your own wallet and every position is public on-chain.

"Should I trade perps on Hyperliquid or on Binance?" is one of the most common questions from traders moving between centralized and decentralized exchanges. Both run a central limit order book, both list BTC, ETH, SOL and HYPE perpetuals, and both publish market data through free public APIs. So instead of comparing marketing claims, this guide pulls the same numbers from both venues at the same minute, lays out the official fee schedules, and explains the structural differences that matter more than a basis point of fees.

Hyperliquid and Binance Futures in one paragraph each

  • Hyperliquid is a perpetuals exchange running on its own layer-1 blockchain. You connect a wallet, deposit USDC and trade; there is no account to open. Perps funding is paid every hour, positions and fills are public on-chain, and base-tier fees are 0.015% maker and 0.045% taker. More detail in our Hyperliquid fees guide.
  • Binance USDⓈ-M Futures is the stablecoin-margined futures market of the largest centralized exchange. You need a verified Binance account, funds sit in Binance's custody, and most perps settle funding every 8 hours (some every 4 hours). Regular-user fees on USDT contracts are 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker, or 0.018% and 0.045% if you pay with BNB held in the futures wallet.

Fees compared

Base-tier rates as published on each venue's fee page on 4 November 2026. Both venues lower fees as your volume grows; Binance VIP tiers also require a BNB balance.

VenueMakerTakerDiscounts
Hyperliquid perps0.015%0.045%Volume tiers (14-day), staking discounts, 4% off with a referral code such as HYPERFOLIO
Binance USDⓈ-M (USDT)0.020%0.050%10% off paying with BNB (0.018% / 0.045%), VIP tiers by 30-day volume plus BNB balance

Binance also lists separate rates and promotions for USDC-margined contracts, so check the column for the exact contract you trade.

Worked example, $10,000 position opened and closed:

  • Both legs as taker (market orders): Hyperliquid $9.00, or $8.64 with the 4% referral discount; Binance $10.00, or $9.00 paying with BNB.
  • Both legs as maker (resting limit orders): Hyperliquid $3.00; Binance $4.00, or $3.60 with BNB.

So at the base tier Hyperliquid is equal or slightly cheaper in every case. The gap is small enough that spread, slippage and funding usually matter more, which is what the rest of this guide measures.

Market data snapshot: volume, open interest, spread and depth

Pulled from the public Hyperliquid info API and the public Binance futures API on 4 November 2026 at 08:08 UTC. Depth is the dollar value of all bids and asks within ±0.1% of the mid price. Binance numbers are for the USDT-margined contract of each coin.

CoinVenue24h volumeOpen interestSpreadDepth ±0.1%
BTCHyperliquid$3,398M$3,097M0.13 bps$90.74M
Binance$12,967M$7,723M0.01 bps$66.46M
ETHHyperliquid$1,091M$2,371M0.43 bps$21.59M
Binance$8,156M$5,502M0.04 bps$26.11M
SOLHyperliquid$254M$526M0.11 bps$5.30M
Binance$1,417M$869M1.07 bps$4.14M
HYPEHyperliquid$1,048M$1,887M0.12 bps$1.51M
Binance$1,099M$414M0.12 bps$0.90M

What the numbers say:

  • Volume is Binance's clear win. Binance traded 3.8x more BTC, 7.5x more ETH and 5.6x more SOL than Hyperliquid in the last 24 hours. HYPE is the exception: volume was almost identical ($1.05B vs $1.10B).
  • Open interest gap is smaller than the volume gap. Binance held 2.5x more BTC open interest and 2.3x more ETH, but only 1.65x more SOL. On HYPE, Hyperliquid held $1.89B against $414M on Binance, 4.6 times more. Lower volume relative to open interest suggests Hyperliquid positions are held longer and churned less.
  • Depth near the mid is competitive. Within ±0.1% Hyperliquid showed more resting liquidity than Binance on BTC (+37%), SOL and HYPE, and Binance more on ETH. For a typical order of a few hundred thousand dollars, both books absorb it with minimal price impact; see our slippage and price impact guide to estimate yours.
  • Spreads are tiny on both. Binance's BTC and ETH spreads are a single tick (0.01 and 0.04 bps) because its tick size is finer; Hyperliquid's are 0.13 and 0.43 bps. On SOL the situation reverses, with Binance's $0.01 tick equal to about 1 bp. Either way the spread is a fraction of the taker fee.

This is a single snapshot. Volumes and depth move with the hour of day and with volatility (see the best time to trade Hyperliquid), so rerun the script below before drawing firm conclusions.

Funding rates: same level, different rhythm

At 08:08 UTC funding on all eight markets was exactly 0.00125% per hour, which is about 11.0% APR for longs paying shorts. That is the baseline rate both venues apply when the perp trades close to the index, so in calm markets funding cost is usually similar. What differs is the schedule:

  • Hyperliquid settles funding every hour. A $10,000 long held 24 hours at this rate pays 24 payments of $0.125, $3.00 in total.
  • Binance settles BTC, ETH and SOL every 8 hours and HYPE every 4 hours. The same $10,000 long pays three payments of $1.00. If you open after a settlement and close before the next one, you pay no funding at all on Binance, while on Hyperliquid you pay for every hour you hold.

When markets get one-sided the two rates can diverge, which is the basis of cross-venue funding trades. Our funding arbitrage guide and funding rate and PnL guide cover how to measure that.

Leverage

On Hyperliquid the maximum leverage in our snapshot was 40x on BTC, 25x on ETH, 20x on SOL and 10x on HYPE, and it falls for very large positions through margin tiers (see Hyperliquid margin tiers). Binance offers higher maximum leverage on its largest contracts for small positions, but it also caps leverage by position size through leverage brackets that you can see inside your account. In practice, if you need more than 40x on BTC you are taking a risk level where liquidation distance is measured in fractions of a percent; our leverage guide shows the maths.

Custody, access and transparency

Both venues restrict users from certain jurisdictions, so read each one's terms for where you live. Self-custody removes exchange counterparty risk but makes you responsible for your keys; our wallet security guide covers the basics, and the deposit and withdrawal guide explains how to move USDC in and out.

Transparency cuts both ways. On Hyperliquid anyone can see your positions, liquidation prices and PnL. The upside is that you can do the same with the largest traders: follow the Smart Money wallets, check where liquidations cluster, or audit a trader's real track record before copying them. None of that is possible on Binance.

Which one should you use?

  • Choose Hyperliquid if you want to keep custody of your funds, trade without opening an exchange account, pay base-tier taker fees of 0.045% (0.0432% with a referral code) without holding a fee token, trade HYPE where it had 4.6 times more open interest than on Binance, or analyse other traders' on-chain positions.
  • Choose Binance Futures if you need the deepest overall volume on ETH and the majors, a fiat on-ramp, multi-asset collateral, or 8-hour funding windows that let short intraday trades avoid funding entirely.
  • Use both if you hedge or run funding trades across venues. In that case the hard part is keeping one view of your combined PnL, which is where a tracker helps.

FAQ

Is Hyperliquid cheaper than Binance Futures?

At the base tier, slightly. Hyperliquid charges 0.015% maker and 0.045% taker; Binance USDⓈ-M charges 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker, or 0.018% and 0.045% if you pay fees with BNB. On a $10,000 market order opened and closed that is $9.00 on Hyperliquid ($8.64 with the HYPERFOLIO code) against $10.00 on Binance ($9.00 with BNB).

Does Hyperliquid have more liquidity than Binance?

Not in volume: Binance traded 3.8x more BTC in our 4 November 2026 snapshot. But resting depth within ±0.1% of the mid was higher on Hyperliquid for BTC ($90.7M vs $66.5M), SOL and HYPE, and lower for ETH.

Are funding rates the same on Hyperliquid and Binance?

In calm markets they are often the same level; in our snapshot both were 0.00125% per hour (about 11% APR) on BTC, ETH, SOL and HYPE. Hyperliquid pays every hour, Binance every 8 hours on most contracts and every 4 hours on some, including HYPE.

Do I need KYC to trade on Hyperliquid?

Hyperliquid has no account sign-up: you connect a wallet and deposit USDC. Binance requires a verified account. Check each platform's terms for the jurisdictions they restrict.

Can other people see my Hyperliquid positions?

Yes. Every Hyperliquid address, position and fill is public on-chain, which is why tools like Hyperfolio can show the PnL of any wallet without connecting to it.
