Hyperliquid Referral Code (2026): How the 4% Fee Discount Works and How to Verify It

The short version: Entering a referral code on Hyperliquid gives you a 4% discount on trading fees for your first $25M in volume. It stacks on top of your volume tier and HYPE staking discount, it does not apply to vaults or sub-accounts, and you can check whether it is active with one public API call. Our code is HYPERFOLIO (link: app.hyperliquid.xyz/join/HYPERFOLIO).

Most "Hyperliquid referral code" pages are a code and a button. That is fine if you already know what you are getting, but traders keep asking the same questions: how much does 4% actually save, does it combine with staking, why does my sub-account still pay full price, and how do I prove the discount is on? This guide answers those with the numbers from Hyperliquid's own fee schedule, so you can decide in two minutes whether it matters for your trading.

What a Hyperliquid referral code actually does

Hyperliquid runs a simple two-sided referral program, documented in its official docs:

  • For you (the referred trader): a 4% discount on the fees you pay, for your first $25M of trading volume.
  • For the referrer: 10% of the referred user's fees, net of the discount they receive, for the referred user's first $1B of volume.

Nothing else changes. A referral code does not give anyone access to your wallet, cannot move funds, and does not change your leverage, margin or liquidation price. It is a fee-accounting flag attached to your address.

How to apply a referral code on Hyperliquid (step by step)

  1. Open the official app at app.hyperliquid.xyz and connect the wallet you trade with. Double-check the domain; referral links are a common phishing vector.
  2. Either open a referral link such as app.hyperliquid.xyz/join/HYPERFOLIO, or go to app.hyperliquid.xyz/referrals and type the code manually.
  3. Confirm the action in your wallet. It is a signature, not a deposit.
  4. Verify it worked (see the API check below) before you start sizing up.

Two practical tips. First, apply the code on the main account you actually trade from, because the discount does not follow funds into vaults or sub-accounts. Second, do it before your active trading period: the discount is capped by volume, and Hyperliquid's docs do not describe a way to swap codes later, so treat the choice as deliberate.

How much does 4% really save? Worked examples

Hyperliquid perps fees at the base tier (14-day weighted volume under $5M) are 0.045% taker and 0.015% maker. The referral discount multiplies those rates by 0.96:

Rate (perps, tier 0)Without codeWith 4% referral
Taker0.0450%0.0432%
Maker0.0150%0.0144%
Taker with Gold staking (20% off)0.0360%0.03456%

Now apply that to real trading patterns:

  • Casual trader, $200k/month, mostly market orders: fees ≈ $90/month; the code saves ≈ $3.60/month. Small, but it costs nothing.
  • Active trader, $2M/month taker: fees ≈ $900/month; savings ≈ $36/month, or about $430 a year.
  • Full cap, $25M lifetime taker volume at tier 0: fees ≈ $11,250; maximum savings ≈ $450.

The honest read: the referral discount will never rescue a losing strategy, and it is worth far less than switching from market to limit orders where you can (taker 0.045% vs maker 0.015% is a 3x gap). But it is a free, permanent-for-25M reduction on a cost you pay on every fill, and for high-turnover traders it adds up to hundreds of dollars.

Does the referral discount stack with HYPE staking and fee tiers?

Yes. According to Hyperliquid's fee formula for developers, your personal maker and taker rates (which already include your volume tier and HYPE staking discount) are multiplied by (1 − activeReferralDiscount). In practice:

  • Volume tiers (>$5M, >$25M, >$100M 14-day weighted volume…) lower the base rate first.
  • Staking discounts (5% for >10 HYPE up to 40% for >500,000 HYPE) reduce it next.
  • The referral discount takes another 4% off the result.

Two edge cases worth knowing: maker rebates (negative maker fees for very high-share market makers) are not discounted further, and HIP-3 perps can carry extra deployer fees, which the referral discount scales along with the rest of the taker fee. For the full fee schedule, see our Hyperliquid fees guide.

Why your sub-account or vault still pays full fees

This is the most common surprise. Hyperliquid treats vaults and sub-accounts as independent accounts in the clearinghouse, so the referral discount on your master account does not carry over to them. Interestingly, sub-account volume does count toward the master account's fee tier, and all sub-accounts share that tier. So:

  • Sub-accounts benefit from your volume tier, but not from your referral discount.
  • Vault volume is treated separately from the master account entirely.

If you run several strategies across sub-accounts, this is exactly where a per-address view matters: each sub-account has its own address and its own fee bill. Tracking multiple Hyperliquid wallets side by side is the simplest way to see where your fees really go.

How to verify your referral discount is active (no guessing)

Hyperliquid's public info API exposes both pieces you need. Replace the address with your own (read-only, no keys involved):

curl -s -X POST https://api.hyperliquid.xyz/info \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"type":"userFees","user":"0xYourAddress"}'

Look for activeReferralDiscount. A value of "0.04" means the 4% discount is live; "0.0" means it is not (no code applied, you are checking a sub-account or vault, or the $25M volume cap is used up). The same response shows userCrossRate (your taker rate) and userAddRate (your maker rate).

To see who referred an address and its cumulative volume, use the referral request type:

curl -s -X POST https://api.hyperliquid.xyz/info \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"type":"referral","user":"0xYourAddress"}'

The referredBy field shows the referrer and code, and cumVlm tracks the volume that counts toward the caps.

Becoming a referrer: requirements and payouts

If you trade enough, you can earn from your own code:

  • You can create a code at app.hyperliquid.xyz/referrals after $10,000 in trading volume.
  • You earn 10% of referred users' fees, less any discount they receive, for each user's first $1B in volume.
  • Rewards accrue in all quote assets, can be claimed once they exceed $1, and land in your spot balance.

Share codes responsibly: point people to the official domain only, never ask for a seed phrase, and be transparent that you earn a share of fees. Our Hyperliquid wallet security guide covers the phishing patterns to warn your audience about.

Referral discount vs other ways to cut Hyperliquid costs

Referral code−4% on fees (first $25M)One signature

HYPE staking−5% to −40%Requires locking capital in HYPE

Managing funding exposureOften larger than fees on held positionsPosition timing and sizing

That last row matters: for positions held over many hours, hourly funding can outweigh trading fees. Our real PnL after fees and funding guide shows how to account for both.

Common mistakes with Hyperliquid referral codes

  • Applying it on the wrong address. If you trade from a sub-account, the master account's discount will not show up there.
  • Using a lookalike domain. A "referral" link that is not app.hyperliquid.xyz is a red flag.
  • Overestimating the savings. 4% of fees is not 4% of your PnL. Use the numbers above, not the marketing.
  • Never checking. One API call confirms it; don't assume.

FAQ

What is the Hyperliquid referral discount in 2026?

A 4% discount on trading fees for your first $25M of volume, per Hyperliquid's documentation.

Does the referral code work for spot trading too?

Yes. The fee formula applies the referral discount to both spot and perps rates, including HIP-3 perps.

Is the HYPERFOLIO code safe to use?

A referral code only changes fee accounting on Hyperliquid itself. It never grants access to your wallet or funds. Use it at app.hyperliquid.xyz/join/HYPERFOLIO or by typing HYPERFOLIO on the official referrals page.

Why does activeReferralDiscount show 0.0?

Usually because no code is applied to that exact address, you are checking a sub-account or vault, or the $25M volume cap has been reached.

Can I use a referral code on a vault?

No. Hyperliquid's docs state referral discounts do not apply to vaults or sub-accounts.

Does the referral code affect liquidation or margin?

No. It only changes the fee rate. Leverage, margin and liquidation price work exactly the same.
